It was a good birthday...

Yesterday Asia turned 42.

He started the morning off with a tennis match. He got all Wimbledon on his partner and even dove for a ball. He's suffering the consequences now, since his 42 year old body doesn't handle being thrown across a court the same way his 30 year old body did. But he had fun.

I had to work all day, but when I got home, the kids and I had a little party for him. They had all gotten him their own presents - which is fun. I love to see what they choose for him and how they decide how much of their $ they want to spend. Kyler gave him an all expenses paid afternoon - with lunch at Asia's favorite restaurant and a movie. Savannah gave him a great glass with a picture of a BBQ that says "Not burnt until I say so" and Ethan gave him a great Eddie Bauer flashlight.
Last night, he had his birthday poker party. Ten guys showed up, including one of his best buddies in all the world who now lives in Utah, Bryan. Asia didn't know he was going to be there, so that was a fun surprise.

I fed them all my famous meatball sandwiches. And they ate and drank and laughed and did guy things. The kids and I went downstairs for the majority of the time and just let them be men. Once Bryan showed up, his wife and I hung out in the living room. They all throw in $10, and three guys go home with something... the rest are, well, losers.
It was a good day. A good birthday.
(And now I'm married to a 42 year old. How did that happen? Because we were just kids...)

Getting to know you Wednesday

So it's been awhile. But I thought hearing from ya'll might cheer up my little snow encrusted Spokane self. So today, if I get at least 12 comments, I'll randomly pick one and send that lucky commenter any CD from Your Music . Whatever you want. So today, in light of mid-winter doldrums, I want you to answer the following three questions. To escape mid-winter doldrums, I like to: My favorite winter memory is: I know Spring is coming when: Okay, friends. Now it's your turn. Go to it.

The floodgates have opened.

So, I was doing pretty well managing my emotions. I kept telling people that I had processed a lot of my grieving over Tejan's departure back in January - when we were so close to saying goodbye... and so that must be why I wasn't feeling overly emotional about it this time around. I hadn't shed any tears. Hadn't choked up in that strange, overwhelming way where I feel like my whole head is filling up with fluid and my throat is so constricted I'm just sure I'm going to die. Nope. I was doing just fine. And then I went out to dinner with some girlfriends. And while I was a little socially inept because I'm a kind of overwhelmed and not really wanting to talk too much lately (perhaps in subconscious fear that I might touch on a nerve that would cause my aforementioned steely resolve to crumble) I thought I got through the evening fairly well. I didn't tear up - or need tissue for any fluids defiantly leaking from my facial orifices... until I made the a...
