Summertime - and the livin' is easy

I've been so thrilled to be void of school commitments that I sort of forgot that I have a blog.

Can you believe that?

True.

The kids finished up on Friday. They had a big awards assembly and basically that was all they did.

It was K's final assembly on Cabinet... he opened the assembly with the pledge of allegiance. And then proceeded to get called up for nearly every award known to man. High honors. Peer mediator. Cabinet. Patrol. A special award called the Jude Bautista, given by the librarian to the most inspiring reader in the school... it was a fun assembly. But it made me extremely nostalgic and sad that he's leaving Jefferson. He's had such a successful school career there.
They ended the assembly with the annual six grade confetti parade. The whole class parades around the gym a few times while all the adults around the perimeter shower the kids with confetti. It's sweet. And fun. Got some great pictures of him with all of his teachers - every one of them, from kindergarten through sixth grade is still at the school and were kind enough to meet us for a photo shoot. I also had to take one of all three kids with their first grade teacher. E. was the last one to have her - this year - and now we're done being in her classroom. Which makes me extremely sad. She's been the perfect first grade teacher. Love her. And now it's summer.

Sleeping in was the first item on the agenda.

Later this morning we have a rehearsal for the kids' piano recital tonight.

But other than that, we're taking it easy. We'll start deep cleaning the kids' bedrooms today - and probably take all week to get that finished up. But it's supposed to warm up to 85 by Wednesday, so for sure we'll have to include a trip to the pool...

Love the leisurely pace of summer.

It's good.

Getting to know you Wednesday

So it's been awhile. But I thought hearing from ya'll might cheer up my little snow encrusted Spokane self. So today, if I get at least 12 comments, I'll randomly pick one and send that lucky commenter any CD from Your Music . Whatever you want. So today, in light of mid-winter doldrums, I want you to answer the following three questions. To escape mid-winter doldrums, I like to: My favorite winter memory is: I know Spring is coming when: Okay, friends. Now it's your turn. Go to it.

The floodgates have opened.

So, I was doing pretty well managing my emotions. I kept telling people that I had processed a lot of my grieving over Tejan's departure back in January - when we were so close to saying goodbye... and so that must be why I wasn't feeling overly emotional about it this time around. I hadn't shed any tears. Hadn't choked up in that strange, overwhelming way where I feel like my whole head is filling up with fluid and my throat is so constricted I'm just sure I'm going to die. Nope. I was doing just fine. And then I went out to dinner with some girlfriends. And while I was a little socially inept because I'm a kind of overwhelmed and not really wanting to talk too much lately (perhaps in subconscious fear that I might touch on a nerve that would cause my aforementioned steely resolve to crumble) I thought I got through the evening fairly well. I didn't tear up - or need tissue for any fluids defiantly leaking from my facial orifices... until I made the a...
