Wow. A brand new year.

Happy New Year, everyone.

We were up 'til midnight at some friends' house. The kids went outside and rang in the new year with pots and pans and a dozen cans of silly string. Now it's nine a.m. and everyone is still sleeping, except for Gracie and I. Church starts in an hour - do I wake everyone up or let them sleep? Dilema.

Either way, of course everyone is thinking about resolutions this time of year. I generally don't make them, but this year I like what one blogger I read has called "intentions..."

I dig the idea of living intentionally. It doesn't sound like such a set up for failure to say I'm intentionally going to live a certain way... (as opposed to a resolution, which always seems to end up being forgotten by January 20th or so.)

So what do I want to intentionally do this year?
  • Have more people over. We love hosting gatherings in our home, but it takes intentional planning to make it happen. I've got some great ideas for hosting different kinds of gatherings - and I intend to make it happen this year.
  • Eliminate fast food. I go in fits and starts with this - lately it's been more starts than fits. Hate the stuff, but when I'm out running errands and I'm hungry, I give in to the lure of the drive-through more often than I should. I'm intentionally going to plan ahead better and bring along healthy snacks in the car.
  • Play with art. A lot of scrapbooking has become "work" for me - which I don't mind at all, because I love what I do. But I want to be sure that at least twice a month, I get to go into my studio to play and try something different and new. I want to push myself artistically.
  • I intend to learn how to knit. (Mindy - I'll be calling to see when I can come over so you can teach me...)
  • I intend to be more diligent in keeping a regular cleaning routine around the house.
  • I intend to pray more.

There you go. Don't I sound like a wonderful person in that list? (She's so well-rounded, I would be thinking if I were you...) Don't be fooled. Ha! It's just a list. And I'm just a silly girl with high hopes.

But that's what New Year's Day is all about, isn't it?

How do you plan to live intentionally this year? I'd love to hear.

May 2006 bring lots of laughter and growth and blessings to you all, my friends.

Getting to know you Wednesday

So it's been awhile. But I thought hearing from ya'll might cheer up my little snow encrusted Spokane self. So today, if I get at least 12 comments, I'll randomly pick one and send that lucky commenter any CD from Your Music . Whatever you want. So today, in light of mid-winter doldrums, I want you to answer the following three questions. To escape mid-winter doldrums, I like to: My favorite winter memory is: I know Spring is coming when: Okay, friends. Now it's your turn. Go to it.

The floodgates have opened.

So, I was doing pretty well managing my emotions. I kept telling people that I had processed a lot of my grieving over Tejan's departure back in January - when we were so close to saying goodbye... and so that must be why I wasn't feeling overly emotional about it this time around. I hadn't shed any tears. Hadn't choked up in that strange, overwhelming way where I feel like my whole head is filling up with fluid and my throat is so constricted I'm just sure I'm going to die. Nope. I was doing just fine. And then I went out to dinner with some girlfriends. And while I was a little socially inept because I'm a kind of overwhelmed and not really wanting to talk too much lately (perhaps in subconscious fear that I might touch on a nerve that would cause my aforementioned steely resolve to crumble) I thought I got through the evening fairly well. I didn't tear up - or need tissue for any fluids defiantly leaking from my facial orifices... until I made the a...
