Rise and Shine

I've been awake since 3:45. Which would be really tragic on a normal morning, but since my alarm was already set for 4:45, I figured I might as well just get outa bed and leave a little farewell post for the thousands of you who stop here regularly. (HA!)

(Total sidenote: My Grandma Young always used to write Ha! in her letters whenever she wanted to indicate that she was happy about something, or that she was laughing at herself. I chose to take the smiley face route in my own letter writing, but that little handwritten Ha! is one of the things I miss most about my Grandma Young. That, and the fact that she actually wrote letters. Nobody writes letters anymore. End of sidenote.)

I am completely packed and ready to go. Las Vegas. I really never imagined myself going there. I'm not really one for casinos and smoking and staring blankly at a slot machine for hours on end. The only time I've gambled in my life is once in South Lake Tahoe with my friend Heather. I won $50. But that's neither here nor there. I'm leaving on a jet plane and will be in Vegas in roughly four hours.

(Sidenote number two: John Denver always looked sort of froggish to me.)

I went shopping with my friend Mindy,

(Sidenote number three: Mindy put a link to my blog in her post about our shopping trip on her blog. I don't have the energy to do that right now. It's four freaking fifty five in the morning. Sorry Mind.)

and managed to find a cute pair of pants and some fun new accessories for my trip. When I add those to the new jeans I found last week, I'm feeling pretty cute for this little jaunt. I'm really desperately boring in my normal day to day wardrobe, so having to look cute and put together four days in a row just about stretched my outfit-making abilities beyond my resources. I think I'll be alright with the new stuff, but it's a challenge to not be able to wear my jeans every day. I could never work in a corporate setting. Business attire makes me cranky.

Okay. I have to be at the airport in a half hour.

Gotta get dressed in my cute new clothes.

Here's hoping I can sleep on the plane.

Have a great week, everyone. I'm back late Thursday night.

See you on the flip side. (Whatever that means.)

Everytime I include a :) in an e-mail or a blog, I always think of Grandma Young and her Ha! comments. Thanks for the sidenote.

Happy Birthday Cathy! , originally uploaded by Pink Paper Peppermints . All of these sweet bloggy friends threw me a cyber-birthday party! How fun is that? Thank you, dear friends. I am touched. It's really just what I needed today. Sweet Tanya even made me a cake. If you want to follow the party around cyber-space, you can go to Melissa's blog to see everyone who is participating.

Getting to know you Wednesday

So it's been awhile. But I thought hearing from ya'll might cheer up my little snow encrusted Spokane self. So today, if I get at least 12 comments, I'll randomly pick one and send that lucky commenter any CD from Your Music . Whatever you want. So today, in light of mid-winter doldrums, I want you to answer the following three questions. To escape mid-winter doldrums, I like to: My favorite winter memory is: I know Spring is coming when: Okay, friends. Now it's your turn. Go to it.

The floodgates have opened.

So, I was doing pretty well managing my emotions. I kept telling people that I had processed a lot of my grieving over Tejan's departure back in January - when we were so close to saying goodbye... and so that must be why I wasn't feeling overly emotional about it this time around. I hadn't shed any tears. Hadn't choked up in that strange, overwhelming way where I feel like my whole head is filling up with fluid and my throat is so constricted I'm just sure I'm going to die. Nope. I was doing just fine. And then I went out to dinner with some girlfriends. And while I was a little socially inept because I'm a kind of overwhelmed and not really wanting to talk too much lately (perhaps in subconscious fear that I might touch on a nerve that would cause my aforementioned steely resolve to crumble) I thought I got through the evening fairly well. I didn't tear up - or need tissue for any fluids defiantly leaking from my facial orifices... until I made the a...
