Living a Dream...

I was so challenged at church yesterday.

Challenged by the idea of doing God's work. The work he has for me.

And encouraged by the notion that His work often becomes apparent to us in our hopes and plans and dreams for the future.

I was blown away by three college boys who stood up in church and shared their dream. They had a vision of crocheting beanies and selling them to raise money for the poor. And now they are now going to Uganda next summer to train and employ six Ugandan women - making beanies that will be sold here in the States. So cool. So simple. So amazing. (You can check them out here.)

So I've been thinking.

Thinking about my dreams. The things I would do if I didn't have to worry about details and money and blah blah blah...

And wondering about God being able to take care of all the blah blah blah and just make the dreams happen because it's His work.

Here are a few of my dreams:
  • Host Tejan when he comes to the States.
  • Take our family to Africa for a short term mission.
  • Become a 'go-to Mom' for young moms at my kids' school who need a resource, a question answerer and a friend.
  • Become more generous with my $$$.
  • Continue to build on my kids' faith in ways that are real and life affecting.
  • Find more creative ways to use our home to love on people.
  • Pray. Pray. Pray more.

I anticipate a great 2007, because I know God can succeed at making all these dreams come true.

Happy New Year, my friends.

Dare to dream.

  2. Hi Cathy-- I was wondering what church you go to, since in the 6 months since we moved here I still haven't found one and am looking for ones to try. Thanks--Karla

New Years Eve was challenging at Mosaic also. I got called to change soome attitudes about my outlook.
Bing Crosby was from Spokane, but he had a great coach and agent to help him overcome that image and make it big in Hollywood.
Someday we will visit Spokane and have it convince us it is a big city. I still think Portland is the backwoods.

  5. Your goals (dreams) are infectious, Cathy. And you have a good way of pointing me to Jesus. Love that about you.

Getting to know you Wednesday

So it's been awhile. But I thought hearing from ya'll might cheer up my little snow encrusted Spokane self. So today, if I get at least 12 comments, I'll randomly pick one and send that lucky commenter any CD from Your Music . Whatever you want. So today, in light of mid-winter doldrums, I want you to answer the following three questions. To escape mid-winter doldrums, I like to: My favorite winter memory is: I know Spring is coming when: Okay, friends. Now it's your turn. Go to it.

The floodgates have opened.

So, I was doing pretty well managing my emotions. I kept telling people that I had processed a lot of my grieving over Tejan's departure back in January - when we were so close to saying goodbye... and so that must be why I wasn't feeling overly emotional about it this time around. I hadn't shed any tears. Hadn't choked up in that strange, overwhelming way where I feel like my whole head is filling up with fluid and my throat is so constricted I'm just sure I'm going to die. Nope. I was doing just fine. And then I went out to dinner with some girlfriends. And while I was a little socially inept because I'm a kind of overwhelmed and not really wanting to talk too much lately (perhaps in subconscious fear that I might touch on a nerve that would cause my aforementioned steely resolve to crumble) I thought I got through the evening fairly well. I didn't tear up - or need tissue for any fluids defiantly leaking from my facial orifices... until I made the a...
