Confession

I have never read a Harry Potter book.

Nor do I ever plan to.

Everyone in my family likes Harry Potter.

But I don't.

I don't want to talk about the new movie.

Or the new book.

So would every random stranger and friend and acquaintance and blog and home page and tv show please stop talking about it/him?

Please?

Sheesh.
(I know. I'm a party pooper.)

  1. Cathy, I just want to say this: I'm no Harry Potter fan. I've seen part of one movie, because my roommates are maniacs and I happened to walk in front of the TV.

There is hope; we're the precious few. ;)

    Hey Cathy,
I understand why you might not want to read the books. I was certainly in that camp--I was kind of snotty about disliking fantasy books, etc. Sort of proud of myself that I'd resisted being like everyone else. Then I read the first book. For a person who has NEVER been into books about witches, wizards, etc...I LOVED the books. I'm not a rip-roaring fan. But, I do appreciate the characters and how the author has allowed them to grow and change over time. That is so unusual for a series. I have to admit that I was wrong about Harry Potter. Yes, I was wrong.

So, I'm just saying that you might want to give the books a try--a small try. Because I think JK Rowling deserves her billions for creating characters people love. And the movies are quite good, too.

How many times have you loved the book but hated the movie? It's unusual to like both.

Come on, give the books a try. Come over to my side of the "I was wrong about HP" camp....???

p.s. What happened to "getting to know you Wed?"

  4. Hey Cathy -
Good for you - don't just do it cuz everyone is doing it....I joined the HP club last year after bashing it for years...and must admit that I am hooked. The day will come when you will have to admit that Harry is oh so good...how did you like Lord of the Rings????? Need I say more.
Love ya and like that you think for yourself...

  7. Do you want me to tell you what happens in book 7? I'm finished! :-) You really ought to read them. I love them and I think you would too.

  8. Of course, by talking about too many people talking and blogging about HP, you just blogged about HP, too. Sorry, I'm just teasing you. Yeah, I don't get the hole HP thing either. I'm rather neutral about the "phenomenon". But then again, I prefer reading that "boring" non-fiction stuff. I also think reports exagerate the ammount of kids reading through such huge volumes. With ADHD, short attention spans and excessive sugar, I can't imagine many kids focusing that long. Now back to my book about Shambhala.....

  9. Have to agree with you there. Not because I made a concious decision..but my daughter was barely the age to start reading them when the books started...and never got into it...my son never showed a bit of interest. They have seen the movies, and weren't impressed and didn't even want to see the last one. Really no matter to me, I am sure I won't feel like i Missed out on anything at the end of my life I won't be saying, Darn I wish I had read those Harry Potter books!

  10. don't judge the books by the movie...
    #2. I haven't blogged about it. ok?
#3. bit touchy on the subject, sheesh o'rama! ;) :P
#4. I think that anything that makes a 9 year old read from dawn to dusk once or twice a summer is a good thing. There, I said it...good. and yes, all but one read it to themselves or with us. Family time is good, isn't it?
#5. how hard is it to get to Spokane from California? I'm just asking.

It came out of the faucet that way.

It's been months since I've had a "Getting to Know You Wednesday." Life's been a little crazy. So today, when life is a little bit calm and I've got the least chaotic week I've had for ages, I thought I'd jump back in. So today, if you leave me a comment telling me your most favorite-ist movie line ever, I'll enter you in a drawing for your very own copy of Josh Groban's new Christmas CD - Noel . It's a good one, folks. Classic holiday music from such a wonderful vocalist... you'll like it, I promise. I just want one movie line. Not your three favorite... not a paragraph. Just one line. The one you find yourself repeating. The one that makes you laugh every time. Your very favorite movie line of all time. And if you're the first person to name the movie my title is from, you'll get an extra entry in the drawing. Now, let's hear it.

Are you ready for this?

How did it get to be Wednesday? Seriously. There aren't enough hours in the day - even when you're up at 2:00 am. And no - I didn't get up at 2:00 this morning. I slept all the way until 5:00! Anywho - I decided I needed something new to blog. Something to shake you all out of your 'thoughts from the deep recesses' stupor. Something to get your blood pumping and your fingers tingling. Something to inspire long and meaningful comments. From you. My beloved readers. It's a new weekly Thoughts From the Deep Recesses feature. It's "Getting to Know you Wednesday" Now this could either be lots of fun, or it could just totally flop, and I could go to bed crying because my blog readers are a bunch of takers who only come here to read and never interact. Like a piece of fresh fruit, you squeeze the juice out of my hard-written and well thought out posts and then you toss them aside, wandering on to the next blog with a simple click of your mouse. You read

Good morning, peeps. It's Friday. There's frost outside this morning. *FROST!* This week has been ridiculously chilly. I'm having mixed feelings about blogging lately. Mostly because I feel like all I've been doing is whine about being tired. Or overwhelmed. And because comments are lacking. And because I can't seem to think about anything to write about except Tejan. And because some of the thoughts I'm having are too private for the blog - or too repetitive. Or too unformed to turn into actual words you all could understand. So I'm struggling a bit. And yet, I'm committed to documenting the process I'm in. So I'll keep writing when the words come. And when they don't, like this morning, when I looked at that intimidating blinking cursor and my mind went blank and I started to break out in a cold sweat and began by talking about the weather... well, then, I'll just gracefully (or not so gracefully) back out of the room... tail between m
