Weekend Update.

  • Don't those crocus just make you exceedingly happy? They sure do me... there's some color outside my door!!!
  • St. Patricks day dinner: Pumpkin bread french toast, sausages and green apple sodas for the kiddos. Weird. But yummy. Love the action in the bottom left corner of this picture... Asia grabbing his french toast.
  • Kyler had his first timed run for track on Wednesday - they call them the Tiger Relays - and it serves as a sort of qualifying/placement run. He's running the 1600 meter (1 mile) race again. He finished on Wednesday with a time of 4:54, which was his PR (personal record) at the end of last year's track season. REALLY, really proud of  him.
  • The Variety Show for Ethan's school is next week... he and his little friend Bridger put together a choreographed light saber fight/dance that is hilarious. I've been involved in the variety show since Kyler was in second grade... it's one of my VERY favorite parental involvements. Sad that next year will be the end of our time at elementary school and I will have to say goodbye to this tradition.
  • My new work schedule is a DREAM. I absolutely LOVE the change from 7 meetings working six days a week to 8 meetings working five instead. Plus - because of the timing of my weekend meetings, I feel like I have WAY more time off. I used to work Sunday afternoons, which I didn't realize at the time totally broke up my weekend. Now I work Saturday mornings, but I'm done by 10:00 am - and then I don't have to work again until Monday night. It's almost like having three whole days off. I'm REALLY happy with it. No one misses me on Saturday mornings... they're all just barely out of bed by the time I'm done!
  • My running continues to go really well. I did my first five mile run last weekend... it felt great. I'm actually really amazed that I'm actually doing it. So crazy. And I really like it. Who knew? I've always sort of prided myself on being a walker, so the running thing has really caught me off guard. I've logged 114 miles so far in 2011. Some of those are walking miles - but the majority have been run. My goal is 500 by the end of the year. I'm right on track.
  • Fundraising is plugging right along. We'll have another bake sale on April 10th... and I'll have my card classes next month too. We almost have enough to buy our tickets - which should be happening by the end of the month.
  • Spent last weekend on the Oregon coast with my mom at a scrapbooking retreat... we ended up having to evacuate for a tsunami warning, as you may have heard. Thankfully nothing happened. I finished a project that's been sitting half done for over a year... will be sharing it soon for a Creativity Monday.
  • Found out a couple of days ago that Tejan will be having another surgery on his jaw in May. It continues to cause him problems as he is growing... apparently his lower (broken) jaw is not growing like the rest of his head. The crazy thing is that his surgery will be on Mercy Ship - where our dear friend Jay is serving right there in Freetown, Sierra Leone. I can't begin to tell you how much peace it gives me to know that Jay will be right there - able to check in on T... and tell me firsthand how he is doing. We may even be able to do some live chatting. Can you imagine? SO thankful that his medical needs are being met and that we can be connected to him while that is happening.
  • Happy weekend, friends!

I love it when people talk back...

It came out of the faucet that way.

It's been months since I've had a "Getting to Know You Wednesday." Life's been a little crazy. So today, when life is a little bit calm and I've got the least chaotic week I've had for ages, I thought I'd jump back in. So today, if you leave me a comment telling me your most favorite-ist movie line ever, I'll enter you in a drawing for your very own copy of Josh Groban's new Christmas CD - Noel . It's a good one, folks. Classic holiday music from such a wonderful vocalist... you'll like it, I promise. I just want one movie line. Not your three favorite... not a paragraph. Just one line. The one you find yourself repeating. The one that makes you laugh every time. Your very favorite movie line of all time. And if you're the first person to name the movie my title is from, you'll get an extra entry in the drawing. Now, let's hear it.

30,000? For real?

So, if you scroll down to the bottom of this here blog, you'll see that I'm probably just a day or two from reaching 30,000 hits. That's just freaky. And in just under 2 years. (I didn't add the counter until after I'd been blogging for several months...) So in honor of almost reaching that milestone, this weeks 'getting to know you Wednesday' question is this: What would you do if you won $30,000? I like this question, because it's not an overwhelming number, and therefore not brain-freeze inducing. It's big enough to be able to accomplish some nice little projects around the house, but not so large that you have to worry about your third cousins from the Ozarks showing up on your doorstep looking for cash so they can put veneers on their teeth. Answer my question this week and you'll be entered in a drawing for 30 special little trinkets in a lovely little goody box. (And when I say trinkets, I mean trinkets. We're talking 30 little lovelie

Are you ready for this?

How did it get to be Wednesday? Seriously. There aren't enough hours in the day - even when you're up at 2:00 am. And no - I didn't get up at 2:00 this morning. I slept all the way until 5:00! Anywho - I decided I needed something new to blog. Something to shake you all out of your 'thoughts from the deep recesses' stupor. Something to get your blood pumping and your fingers tingling. Something to inspire long and meaningful comments. From you. My beloved readers. It's a new weekly Thoughts From the Deep Recesses feature. It's "Getting to Know you Wednesday" Now this could either be lots of fun, or it could just totally flop, and I could go to bed crying because my blog readers are a bunch of takers who only come here to read and never interact. Like a piece of fresh fruit, you squeeze the juice out of my hard-written and well thought out posts and then you toss them aside, wandering on to the next blog with a simple click of your mouse.
