Sunday evening thoughts

Phew.

It's been a crazy weekend, with Asia and I both fighting some sort of achy, cold-like ailment. We're both pretty pathetic. He even stayed home from church this morning. I took the kids, but was pretty wiped out by the time we got home.

After a nap, I was feeling a little better, so S. and I jumped in the car and drove down to the "Bead Stampede", a semi-annual bead show that we've attended faithfully for the last couple of years. I love going places like that with her, because she is just like me in her affection for all things tiny and shiny and clinky and lovely. Over and over again we could be heard... "Oh, look at these, they're so smooth!" (or sparkly or colorful or teeny-tiny.) We are drawn to the same colors and shapes - blues and greens and pinks and browns... oh whatever, we really love them all. Now we have a treasure trove of stringed beads waiting for a quiet afternoon when we can put them together into matching bracelets or necklaces. Great mother-daughter time, made perfect by a stop at Jack-in-the-Box on the way home for Pumpkin Pie milkshakes.

Now I'm home and checking my email and my favorite blogs... resisting the need to get up and prepare some sort of meal for the fam... My neck aches and my nose is stuffed up and I just want to curl up with my favorite blankie and watch tv and chill... thank goodness they're used to easy Sunday meals - lots of times it's just cold cereal night around here.

Tomorrow is Halloween. I realized on the drive home that we forgot to buy pumpkins this year, and as I drove past Albertsons, I saw that they were all gone, probably taken away before they could be smashed by over-sugared teenagers. Guess we won't be carving jack-0-lanterns tomorrow. Good thing is, the costumes are all taken care of, so I can look forward to having some friends over to trick-or-treat with us tomorrow. I'll make some pumpkin bars and heat up some L'il Smokies (a Halloween tradition - trying to get some protein into the kids before they stuff themselves with candy.) My friend Mindy is bringing cinnamon popcorn, so I'll be a happy girl.

Hmmm. K. put some tots in the oven, and now they're ready, so I'm off to eat.

Good Sunday.

So are you feeling better now? I'm sorry that you and Asia felt crummy. That makes me sad.

Missoula Children's Theater

Last week Savannah and Ethan were both cast in their school's Missoula Children's Theater production of Red Riding Hood. Savannah was cast as Mother Hood and the Grandmother, and Ethan was Robin Hood - the Hood family's cousin from England. After five days of intense rehearsing, (four and a half hours every day after school) they were ready for two shows on Saturday afternoon. It was so fun for them. And fun for me, as I was one of two parent volunteers with the privilege of being at every rehearsal. I come from my own childhood experience of many opportunities with theater and musicals, so watching them experience the thrill of performing was awesome. It was an amazing week. I'm so glad they had the chance to do it. I loved that instead of having to commit to weeks and weeks of rehearsals, they just had to do this one really intense week. A full scale musical production without a month of rehearsing and I didn't have to sew any costumes! That's my kind of pla...

Phlumpyschlumpy.

Good morning, peeps. It's Friday. There's frost outside this morning. *FROST!* This week has been ridiculously chilly. I'm having mixed feelings about blogging lately. Mostly because I feel like all I've been doing is whine about being tired. Or overwhelmed. And because comments are lacking. And because I can't seem to think about anything to write about except Tejan. And because some of the thoughts I'm having are too private for the blog - or too repetitive. Or too unformed to turn into actual words you all could understand. So I'm struggling a bit. And yet, I'm committed to documenting the process I'm in. So I'll keep writing when the words come. And when they don't, like this morning, when I looked at that intimidating blinking cursor and my mind went blank and I started to break out in a cold sweat and began by talking about the weather... well, then, I'll just gracefully (or not so gracefully) back out of the room... tail between m...
