Up at the crack of the crack of dawn...

I awoke at 4:30 this morning. Couldn't get back to sleep, so I got out of bed at 5:00. Crazy.

I'll most likely fall over into a coma around 1:30 this afternoon.

I did have lots of time for a hot bath, and some blog reading. If I get all that out of the way, when the kids go to school, I can revel in the quietness of my house and read my bible and then get into my studio right away. So being up early isn't awful. It just seems like it.

American Idol tonight... it's harder every week to see someone go home. I really do like each of the contestants who remain. Do I have a favorite? (Thanks for asking...) As much as Chris totally blows me away with his raw talent, my favorite has to be Taylor. The guy just oozes music. And soul. And genius. It courses through his body and fills the stage. Love.him. I would buy a CD today if it were available. While I thought Kellie Pickler was as cute as a button, I was wearing tired of her. It was time for her to go.

I'm about to go crazy with the kids and piano practicing... K. and S. have been taking for two years. K. never practices unless I sit next to him and physically force him. S. plays all the time, but only the songs she already knows. Their lessons are today, and she sat down this morning to play through her assigned songs for the first time. It drives me mad. I'm so determined to give them a decent musical education, but absolutely sick of throwing $100 a month at a teacher who has to know how undisciplined they are. It's SO frustrating. I took lessons for ten years - and I'm sure there were times I didn't want to practice, but in all, I LOVED playing. I just want them to have the opportunity.

Asia just called from his office and said there's a job posting in Stevenson, Washington just 45 minutes from Vancouver. I'm off now to find a house there. Just in case we decide we want to move to a tiny tiny town where our kids could grow up and become drug dealers and where the wind blows so hard you feel like your brain is going to freeze.

  1. Cath, don't say that!! You can't move!!!! My favorite is Kathryn. I think she needs a mother to help her dress, but I love her voice. This season I honestly have not been blown away by anyone. I like them all, but rarely do I feel "moved" to vote. I like Taylor but I'm afraid I agree with Simon that his dancing is like a drunk at a wedding. :-) He does exude music, though. Have a great day. You are forbidden to move!!

Of course I know you won't really move because you love where you live but if, by chance, the urge DID really stike you then the logical thing would be to move to Vancouver and make Asia commute. You come from an estrememly logical family so think, I ask you, just think! One of my all time favorite houses in our neighborhood just came for sale. I'm even tempted to move a couple blocks and Lord knows I never want to move again. I'll give up my dream for you. That said, I have no idea how much the pickin thing is. Probably scads of loans would be required. OK then. It's settled.

I ask you . . . "estrememly"? There must be some estrogen in there somewhere.

I gave up piano lessons with the kids last year. I had 3 taking lessons and felt I was going to blow a gasket if I had to sit at the piano and meditate on not slapping them silly. It has been a good year- with only tinges of guilt...I figure that they have been exposed and love music - any new ideas (like a rock band) they need to be highly motivated for - my brother has been a worship leader who writes songs with his wife - and he only started playing guitar in university and we didn't know that he could even sing a tune....please God - inspire my children.
I love Taylor too...he is a true artist and exudes soul in a deep place. I enjoy Chris and see him being the winner...they never pick the artist, the artist is usually #3. Kelli was a cutie, but her voice was grating for me. I am actually quite jealous of Kathryn's beautiful bosom - I can't remember how she sounds though;)She reminds me of Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Cathy- everytime I see Sela Ward = I swear you guys must be related.Paul thinks so too - we call her the Cathy look alike.
A MOVE!!!Don't scare me - I like to think that I watch the same morning news as you in Spokane...but those tiny towns with drug dealers are sure familiar and cute. That is kind of where we are going - so I do know the draw.

Hey Cathy....I had to call your mother today and ask her about your move. "Is she seriously thinking of moving? Asia must be serious if he's even mentioning job postings to his wife!?" Now I LOVE the Gorge. It's my favorite place in the world. I love the wind, I love the Hood River Valley. I love the wheat fields east of The Dalles. I love the Old Columbia River Highway and all the waterfalls. I love seeing Mt. Hood so close. And Stevenson has that wonderful lodge with a great gift shop. And horseback riding. I love the gorge. But I suppose some people like eastern Washington. Somebody has to live there.

I was just in Orange Beach, Alabama and while out at Lester's Restaurant eating grouper we found out that Taylor's grandmother was upstairs and the news people were there. Some of the group I was with went upstairs to see her and they were even in the news clip on TV later. I don't get all this American Idol stuff. I guess I'm just out of the loop. I can't stand people being so rude. (i.e. Simon). And Paula Abdul and her former husband (Martin Sheen's son whose name I can't remember right now) got divorced for the stupidest reasons.

Oh, and pedicures are a WONDERFUL thing to do by yourself. It's great to close your eyes while soaking your feet and not have to talk to anyone. Then when they massage your calves with the warm river rocks you can just zone out. Pure bliss!

I hope someone took a picture of you in your flirty skirt. Feliz Cinco de Mayo y ojala que hay una comida sabrosa!

I love it when people talk back...

It came out of the faucet that way.

It's been months since I've had a "Getting to Know You Wednesday." Life's been a little crazy. So today, when life is a little bit calm and I've got the least chaotic week I've had for ages, I thought I'd jump back in. So today, if you leave me a comment telling me your most favorite-ist movie line ever, I'll enter you in a drawing for your very own copy of Josh Groban's new Christmas CD - Noel . It's a good one, folks. Classic holiday music from such a wonderful vocalist... you'll like it, I promise. I just want one movie line. Not your three favorite... not a paragraph. Just one line. The one you find yourself repeating. The one that makes you laugh every time. Your very favorite movie line of all time. And if you're the first person to name the movie my title is from, you'll get an extra entry in the drawing. Now, let's hear it.

30,000? For real?

So, if you scroll down to the bottom of this here blog, you'll see that I'm probably just a day or two from reaching 30,000 hits. That's just freaky. And in just under 2 years. (I didn't add the counter until after I'd been blogging for several months...) So in honor of almost reaching that milestone, this weeks 'getting to know you Wednesday' question is this: What would you do if you won $30,000? I like this question, because it's not an overwhelming number, and therefore not brain-freeze inducing. It's big enough to be able to accomplish some nice little projects around the house, but not so large that you have to worry about your third cousins from the Ozarks showing up on your doorstep looking for cash so they can put veneers on their teeth. Answer my question this week and you'll be entered in a drawing for 30 special little trinkets in a lovely little goody box. (And when I say trinkets, I mean trinkets. We're talking 30 little lovelie

Are you ready for this?

How did it get to be Wednesday? Seriously. There aren't enough hours in the day - even when you're up at 2:00 am. And no - I didn't get up at 2:00 this morning. I slept all the way until 5:00! Anywho - I decided I needed something new to blog. Something to shake you all out of your 'thoughts from the deep recesses' stupor. Something to get your blood pumping and your fingers tingling. Something to inspire long and meaningful comments. From you. My beloved readers. It's a new weekly Thoughts From the Deep Recesses feature. It's "Getting to Know you Wednesday" Now this could either be lots of fun, or it could just totally flop, and I could go to bed crying because my blog readers are a bunch of takers who only come here to read and never interact. Like a piece of fresh fruit, you squeeze the juice out of my hard-written and well thought out posts and then you toss them aside, wandering on to the next blog with a simple click of your mouse.
