Ahhhhhhhh.....

Home from vacation.

A week on the Oregon coast with perfect weather, great company and lots of time to just chill on the beach... now that's my idea of the ideal vacation.

I'm more than a little sunburned. You know this heat wave? It meant the beach was the perfect temperature for sitting in beach chairs while the kids played. And sitting. And sitting. Lots of sun. And guess who forgot to pack the sunscreen? Oops. Of course, my kids, with their blessed genes, never sunburn. They turn deep deep brown. And Asia? He just gets browner. Me? I get pink. Really pink.

The kids stayed behind - S. and E. are at my parent's house for the weekend, and K. is at my brother's house. Mom and Dad will bring them all home on Monday, on their way to vacation in Yellowstone. The kids are thrilled to get to ride in the R.V. with Grandma and Grandpa. Such good memories.

Asia is in Montana today for Diane's funeral service. He drove over last night with his brother. (After driving home 8 hours from the beach...) He'll be there tonight too and then come home tomorrow, only to leave Monday morning for his first week on the new job. Poor guy.

So guess where that leaves me? Home. Alone. Well, sort of alone. It's me and the dog. I was planning to go to the funeral, of course, but it turned out that all our usual house/dog sitters were out of town this weekend, and I felt terrible leaving her again after being gone all week. I think it's for the best anyway, since none of the brothers' wives came for the funeral. They can all have some good male bonding time. And I get to be home alone.

That's maybe not a big deal to some people. But I can honestly say that I can't remember a time when I've slept alone in my own house. Certainly I haven't since I had kids - and that's been 11 1/2 years. I've never had the house all to myself for this period of time. It's amazingly quiet. And free. I woke up at the crack of dawn (literally) and opened up all the windows, then took Gracie for a walk. I'm planning to go garage sale-ing in a bit, and then I'll come home and clean up a bit from all the vacation schtuff. And then I think I'll take a nap. And maybe watch a movie. And maybe scrapbook. Can you believe I get to do whatever I want all day long?

Okay. Time to feed the dog.

I'll be back later with pictures.

Promise.

Smooches, friends! It's good to be home.

Good morning, peeps. It's Friday. There's frost outside this morning. *FROST!* This week has been ridiculously chilly. I'm having mixed feelings about blogging lately. Mostly because I feel like all I've been doing is whine about being tired. Or overwhelmed. And because comments are lacking. And because I can't seem to think about anything to write about except Tejan. And because some of the thoughts I'm having are too private for the blog - or too repetitive. Or too unformed to turn into actual words you all could understand. So I'm struggling a bit. And yet, I'm committed to documenting the process I'm in. So I'll keep writing when the words come. And when they don't, like this morning, when I looked at that intimidating blinking cursor and my mind went blank and I started to break out in a cold sweat and began by talking about the weather... well, then, I'll just gracefully (or not so gracefully) back out of the room... tail between m...

It came out of the faucet that way.

It's been months since I've had a "Getting to Know You Wednesday." Life's been a little crazy. So today, when life is a little bit calm and I've got the least chaotic week I've had for ages, I thought I'd jump back in. So today, if you leave me a comment telling me your most favorite-ist movie line ever, I'll enter you in a drawing for your very own copy of Josh Groban's new Christmas CD - Noel . It's a good one, folks. Classic holiday music from such a wonderful vocalist... you'll like it, I promise. I just want one movie line. Not your three favorite... not a paragraph. Just one line. The one you find yourself repeating. The one that makes you laugh every time. Your very favorite movie line of all time. And if you're the first person to name the movie my title is from, you'll get an extra entry in the drawing. Now, let's hear it.

Happy Birthday Cathy! , originally uploaded by Pink Paper Peppermints . All of these sweet bloggy friends threw me a cyber-birthday party! How fun is that? Thank you, dear friends. I am touched. It's really just what I needed today. Sweet Tanya even made me a cake. If you want to follow the party around cyber-space, you can go to Melissa's blog to see everyone who is participating.
