Ten Surprises

Advice for anyone feeling short on words: When not feeling particularly bloggy, copy an idea from someone else... got this idea from Susie, who got it from Two Peas.

Ten Surprises I've had in my life:

  1. I'm a lousy housekeeper. I always imagined I'd have a clean house. I'm just not very good at making it happen. And I really don't like housework. At all.
  2. I'm getting lots of grey hair. I never thought it would happen to me. I used to tease my brother Ken about it a lot... what goes around comes around, I guess.
  3. Finding out I was pregnant with K. We hadn't even officially started 'trying.' Surprise!
  4. Finding out I was pregnant with E. I was on the pill at the time!
  5. Realizing that music was not going to be my life-long ministry... I always expected it would be. Now it's not. And that's okay.
  6. My job - I could never have guessed I'd be so lucky to be able to make money doing something I love so much.
  7. Parenting - how hard it is. And how un-natural it is for me much of the time. I never knew it would be so hard. Or so sweet... even in it's hard-ness.
  8. How much I'd love blogging. Silly.
  9. That I could love my husband more with each year of our marriage. It truly just gets better and better all the time.
  10. That God loves me so much. I'll never get over it.

Comments

  1. I'll never get over number 10 either, Cath. but then again, how could we put God in a box?

Guess what- we have something else in common- are you counting yet? Two of my three children were also, ahem, unplanned. The best surprises ;)
    have a great weekend!

    Cathy -
I think your real-ness should be hailed as one of your greatest strengths - you have taken many of the surprises and totally owned them... that is quite powerful and beautiful.
I am with you on the housekeeping and parenting - I think the shock was how unnatural some of these "natural" things were...I have a ton of sympathy for single parents - I NEED a partner for both of these areas.

Somebody got a new toy...

Phlumpyschlumpy.

Good morning, peeps. It's Friday. There's frost outside this morning. *FROST!* This week has been ridiculously chilly. I'm having mixed feelings about blogging lately. Mostly because I feel like all I've been doing is whine about being tired. Or overwhelmed. And because comments are lacking. And because I can't seem to think about anything to write about except Tejan. And because some of the thoughts I'm having are too private for the blog - or too repetitive. Or too unformed to turn into actual words you all could understand. So I'm struggling a bit. And yet, I'm committed to documenting the process I'm in. So I'll keep writing when the words come. And when they don't, like this morning, when I looked at that intimidating blinking cursor and my mind went blank and I started to break out in a cold sweat and began by talking about the weather... well, then, I'll just gracefully (or not so gracefully) back out of the room... tail between m...

Missoula Children's Theater

Last week Savannah and Ethan were both cast in their school's Missoula Children's Theater production of Red Riding Hood. Savannah was cast as Mother Hood and the Grandmother, and Ethan was Robin Hood - the Hood family's cousin from England. After five days of intense rehearsing, (four and a half hours every day after school) they were ready for two shows on Saturday afternoon. It was so fun for them. And fun for me, as I was one of two parent volunteers with the privilege of being at every rehearsal. I come from my own childhood experience of many opportunities with theater and musicals, so watching them experience the thrill of performing was awesome. It was an amazing week. I'm so glad they had the chance to do it. I loved that instead of having to commit to weeks and weeks of rehearsals, they just had to do this one really intense week. A full scale musical production without a month of rehearsing and I didn't have to sew any costumes! That's my kind of pla...
