Caffeine, anyone?

We drove home from our extended family Christmas on Sunday...

As we were coming through the Columbia Gorge, we enjoyed very little traffic... seems most people had done their traveling in the days leading up to Christmas Eve.

There was the occasional car in front or behind us, and of course, Asia made it his goal to pass them all.
(It is, after all, a race, I'm told.)

At one point, we were passing a little blue car. I glanced over, as I often do. I'm always curious about who's on the road and what kind of life they might lead.

Asia must have glanced too, because I heard him say, "Oh GREAT!" at the same time that I yelled, "SHE'S ASLEEP!"

The driver was fully out. Eyes totally closed. Face completely relaxed. Sound asleep.

What do you do?

Asia didn't want to honk and scare her awake when we were right next to her, in case she veered or swerved when she awoke.

So we went a little past her, and he honked. Really honked. A lot.

We, of course, couldn't see whether she woke up.

But when we came to a curve in the road, her car followed the curve instead of going off the side.

So we're assuming she woke up.

Can you even believe that?
So freaky.

Later, I totally got the giggles about Asia's 'oh, great!' comment. What a funny thing to say, like

'oh, great, we forgot to pack the shampoo,'
or
'oh, great, we're going to have to get gas at this expensive freeway gas station..."

But "Oh, great, there's a woman driving a three thousand pound vehicle down the road with her eyes closed, dreaming about sugar plums and we're right next to her and she may very well go off the road and kill herself'"?

Hope she got where she was going all in one piece.
I prayed for her...

Sheesh.

Getting to know you Wednesday

So it's been awhile. But I thought hearing from ya'll might cheer up my little snow encrusted Spokane self. So today, if I get at least 12 comments, I'll randomly pick one and send that lucky commenter any CD from Your Music . Whatever you want. So today, in light of mid-winter doldrums, I want you to answer the following three questions. To escape mid-winter doldrums, I like to: My favorite winter memory is: I know Spring is coming when: Okay, friends. Now it's your turn. Go to it.

The floodgates have opened.

So, I was doing pretty well managing my emotions. I kept telling people that I had processed a lot of my grieving over Tejan's departure back in January - when we were so close to saying goodbye... and so that must be why I wasn't feeling overly emotional about it this time around. I hadn't shed any tears. Hadn't choked up in that strange, overwhelming way where I feel like my whole head is filling up with fluid and my throat is so constricted I'm just sure I'm going to die. Nope. I was doing just fine. And then I went out to dinner with some girlfriends. And while I was a little socially inept because I'm a kind of overwhelmed and not really wanting to talk too much lately (perhaps in subconscious fear that I might touch on a nerve that would cause my aforementioned steely resolve to crumble) I thought I got through the evening fairly well. I didn't tear up - or need tissue for any fluids defiantly leaking from my facial orifices... until I made the a...
