30,000? For real?

So, if you scroll down to the bottom of this here blog, you'll see that I'm probably just a day or two from reaching 30,000 hits.

That's just freaky.

And in just under 2 years. (I didn't add the counter until after I'd been blogging for several months...)

So in honor of almost reaching that milestone, this weeks 'getting to know you Wednesday' question is this:

What would you do if you won $30,000?

I like this question, because it's not an overwhelming number, and therefore not brain-freeze inducing. It's big enough to be able to accomplish some nice little projects around the house, but not so large that you have to worry about your third cousins from the Ozarks showing up on your doorstep looking for cash so they can put veneers on their teeth.

Answer my question this week and you'll be entered in a drawing for 30 special little trinkets in a lovely little goody box. (And when I say trinkets, I mean trinkets. We're talking 30 little lovelies from my stash of treasures. All handpicked just for you. If you're a scrapbooker, you'll find more crafty sorts of things... and if not - you'll be surprised and pleased to find all sorts of itty-bitties to fill your desk drawers and pockets with smiles.)

And for those of you who thought the prize was going to be $30,000, you're visiting the wrong blog.

Now go to it, people.

  1. First, I would get a good pedicure instead of the awful one I just gave myself.

Second, I would get a real photography site up and running.
And that lens I've been drooling over for far too long.

Finally, (if we owned our home) I would outfit our kitchen with new countertops, appliances and cabinets. Oh heck, I'd rip it all out and start over. But I don't know how far 30K would take us.

So. What would you do with 30K?

  2. I can think of bills and savings etc...but since this is hypothetical, and I can be egotistal and self-centered...I would go on a tour of Italy and Greece, maybe take a cooking lesson in Italy.

I would take my family to Disneyland, they have never been. Then I would insulate the house, found out today that there is no insulation in the walls or floors. I would spend some on autographed baseball cards, I would buy my wife a nice mothers ring, and each of my sons an ipod. I would hopefully be able to make a contribution to our church and to Birch Community Services, check out their web site at birchcommunityservices.com. A great organization, with their help we reduced our debt and were able to buy our house.

    Cath,
I would take the whole family
(all 16 of us) to Slovakia next year to visit Aubrianne (Oh I guess there would only be 15 to take since she would all be there.)
What a blast that would be. A vacation of a lifetime and still get to see Aubrianne.
    Love you

    Hello,
    I would either

    A) put the $30,000 towards moving to England for a year so my husband could study at the London School of Economics and I could write a novel...

    B) Take $10,000 and spend 6 weeks in Costa Rica for our whole family bank $10,000 and give out the rest in $1,000 increments secretly to deserving people. Wouldn't it be fun to receive $1,000 in the mail?

    Hi there Cathy,
If I had $30,000 ,which is tripled in pesos here in Argentina, I would put it towards all the extras for finishing the house we are building here. I would also take a trip home to visit family because it has been two years. I would also love to go to the spa for a day.

  12. Hmmm, I would probably pay off our van; get a cheap second car for me; go visit my family in the US for a shopping trip (which means some new clothes and shoes for me); get my hair highlighted--a splurge I miss; plan a fun anniversary trip for my hubby and I and finally-- buy tickets for our best friends here in CR to come to the US. We're so wanting them to visit us while we are home next year and if I bought their tickets, well, that would make things much easier!! :o)

    What would you do Cathy??

  13. Invest! I want that money to work for me. Maybe I would go to Europe for a couple weeks, maybe not. Mostly I want that money to earn some interest and reproduce.

How can I put a counter on my blog? I think that only three or four people have ever been to mine.

  14. fun! I'd pay off some bills first, then put some away for Maya, redecorate my house, send some to my poor college sister, go on a vacation....

If I had $30,000, I would buy peace on earth.

What? This isn't the Miss America Pageant? Oh. In that case: trip to Ireland and college tuition. Those two things would bring peace to MY particular little earth.

  16. Pay off some bills, take my boyfriend on a trip through Canada and the US and buy a 'new' secondhand (thirdhand, fourth..) car...

    Oh, I wish...

  17. I would save most of it for college tuition, but first I'd go crazy in a yarn store! And buy a set of dishes that matched.

I love it when people talk back...

It came out of the faucet that way.

It's been months since I've had a "Getting to Know You Wednesday." Life's been a little crazy. So today, when life is a little bit calm and I've got the least chaotic week I've had for ages, I thought I'd jump back in. So today, if you leave me a comment telling me your most favorite-ist movie line ever, I'll enter you in a drawing for your very own copy of Josh Groban's new Christmas CD - Noel . It's a good one, folks. Classic holiday music from such a wonderful vocalist... you'll like it, I promise. I just want one movie line. Not your three favorite... not a paragraph. Just one line. The one you find yourself repeating. The one that makes you laugh every time. Your very favorite movie line of all time. And if you're the first person to name the movie my title is from, you'll get an extra entry in the drawing. Now, let's hear it.

Are you ready for this?

How did it get to be Wednesday? Seriously. There aren't enough hours in the day - even when you're up at 2:00 am. And no - I didn't get up at 2:00 this morning. I slept all the way until 5:00! Anywho - I decided I needed something new to blog. Something to shake you all out of your 'thoughts from the deep recesses' stupor. Something to get your blood pumping and your fingers tingling. Something to inspire long and meaningful comments. From you. My beloved readers. It's a new weekly Thoughts From the Deep Recesses feature. It's "Getting to Know you Wednesday" Now this could either be lots of fun, or it could just totally flop, and I could go to bed crying because my blog readers are a bunch of takers who only come here to read and never interact. Like a piece of fresh fruit, you squeeze the juice out of my hard-written and well thought out posts and then you toss them aside, wandering on to the next blog with a simple click of your mouse.
