So I've been quiet lately...

I think maybe it's along the lines of 'if you don't have anyting nice to say...'

I've been in a funk. And didn't want to spread the funkiness. So I've just been quiet.

I'm getting over it.

So here I am.

So let's see. What to talk about today...

We got the Verizon bill. The first one since Kyler got his phone. And even though we thought we did everything to avoid that first awful bill where you discover your preteen has sent three billion text messages and you suddenly owe $1200 to your wireless carrier, we still had a little surprise on the bill.

Seems that he's spent a bit of time browsing for ringtones. Like every day. Numerous times a day. Every couple of minutes in some cases. He didn't download any of them - just listened to the samples. But guess what? That eats up minutes. So we went over our allotted 'family plan' shared minutes.

To the tune of $.45 a minute over.

$127.00 in overages.

I hardly use my cell phone. My minutes? Only 88 for the month. Asia talks a LOT on his phone. He used 467. And Kyler used 468. So they split the difference after Verizon graciously gave us a $50.00 credit. And Kyler's phone is now permanently disabled from web-browsing. Sheesh.

Watched the first of the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy with the kids last week. I'd never seen it. Never read the books. We're watching the second one tonight. Of course, I was thoroughly unsatisfied with the terrible ending to the first movie - so I'm eager to see what happens next.

I typically do not like big epic, fantasy-ish movies and avoid them. I've avoided these for years. But somehow I was drawn to them this summer. And so we're watching. Perhaps we'll discuss them at a later date. I'm certain many of my readers have much to say.

We had the most terrific thunderstorm last Friday. I was at work, where we lost power for about an hour and a half, and where a power line came down on the street right in front of us. So exciting. It was lovely to have some rain, which certainly helped with all the fires started by the lightning. I LOVE thunder and lightning.

The kids and I are memorizing Philippians 2:1-11 together this summer.
I'll leave you with these words...

If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ,
if any comfort from his love,
if any fellowship with the Spirit,
if any tenderness and compassion,
then make my joy complete by being like-minded,
having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit,
but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Good stuff.

Happy Monday!

I memorized Philippians 2 when I was probably Kyler's age, and can still quote it as if I learned it yesterday. This is a great passage to have in your brain!

Glad to see you starting LOTR. Truly some of the greatest movies ever made. Are you watching the extended versions or the original?

  2. 3 cheers for Cathy and LOTR! You will really love the symbolism and it is a great way to relate to boys...they love the story and play it over and over again -
I'm with you about the "can't find anything good to say" lately - I have been real quiet too. I think I am sleep deprived due to summer weather and still having work, kids, and wanting to have a fun summer vacation. Looking forward to a storm this week-some rain to cool off.

  3. Now I know we are twins on opposite coasts...you should go read my blog post from a few days ago. "Not myself" . in a funk too. Weird.

Hope you are out of your funk soon! Scrapping usually helps! ::wink::

  4. When I first became a Christian and started reading the bible, that was the passage where I first noticed that the bible uses exclamation points.

    Even death on a cross!

  5. I love that verse. The kids and I memorized that chapter this past year and it was our theme for the year. GREAT stuff!!!

My favorite of the movies is #3. I'm reading #1 to the kids at breakfast right now.

Sorry you are feeling funky. I hope you bust free soon. Love you!!

I love it when people talk back...

It came out of the faucet that way.

It's been months since I've had a "Getting to Know You Wednesday." Life's been a little crazy. So today, when life is a little bit calm and I've got the least chaotic week I've had for ages, I thought I'd jump back in. So today, if you leave me a comment telling me your most favorite-ist movie line ever, I'll enter you in a drawing for your very own copy of Josh Groban's new Christmas CD - Noel . It's a good one, folks. Classic holiday music from such a wonderful vocalist... you'll like it, I promise. I just want one movie line. Not your three favorite... not a paragraph. Just one line. The one you find yourself repeating. The one that makes you laugh every time. Your very favorite movie line of all time. And if you're the first person to name the movie my title is from, you'll get an extra entry in the drawing. Now, let's hear it.

30,000? For real?

So, if you scroll down to the bottom of this here blog, you'll see that I'm probably just a day or two from reaching 30,000 hits. That's just freaky. And in just under 2 years. (I didn't add the counter until after I'd been blogging for several months...) So in honor of almost reaching that milestone, this weeks 'getting to know you Wednesday' question is this: What would you do if you won $30,000? I like this question, because it's not an overwhelming number, and therefore not brain-freeze inducing. It's big enough to be able to accomplish some nice little projects around the house, but not so large that you have to worry about your third cousins from the Ozarks showing up on your doorstep looking for cash so they can put veneers on their teeth. Answer my question this week and you'll be entered in a drawing for 30 special little trinkets in a lovely little goody box. (And when I say trinkets, I mean trinkets. We're talking 30 little lovelie

Are you ready for this?

How did it get to be Wednesday? Seriously. There aren't enough hours in the day - even when you're up at 2:00 am. And no - I didn't get up at 2:00 this morning. I slept all the way until 5:00! Anywho - I decided I needed something new to blog. Something to shake you all out of your 'thoughts from the deep recesses' stupor. Something to get your blood pumping and your fingers tingling. Something to inspire long and meaningful comments. From you. My beloved readers. It's a new weekly Thoughts From the Deep Recesses feature. It's "Getting to Know you Wednesday" Now this could either be lots of fun, or it could just totally flop, and I could go to bed crying because my blog readers are a bunch of takers who only come here to read and never interact. Like a piece of fresh fruit, you squeeze the juice out of my hard-written and well thought out posts and then you toss them aside, wandering on to the next blog with a simple click of your mouse.
