Remiss.

I realize I've been a horrible blogger lately.

I've myriad excuses.
  • My computer is being exceedingly stupid. There is some nasty pop-up thing that we can't get rid of, and so every time I go to a new site, there's an annoying pop-up window to deal with. My dear husband has tried everything to get rid of it and has finally agreed to take it somewhere. To the geeks who can fix it, wherever they are.
  • School started - and so begins the tension between how I dream about spending my time and the way I actually need to spend my time. I feel like I'm never very good at managing this, but particularly at the beginning of the school year.
  • I've been busy busy busy with preparations for Africa - sending support letters, getting shots (ouch!) and learning all the important stuff in my training manual like making sure to pack the Immodium. Yay.
  • I'm not sleeping. It's been seven nights in a row where I just lie there staring at the ceiling. It's not condusive to good writing, I find. My brain is like a bowl full of mush.

So I've been a bad blogger.

I'll do better, I promise.

  1. So, do you HAVE to blog? Do you have to be a 'good" blogger? And who determines what that is? If you were journaling in a book who would care? Are you blogging to entertain us or to document your life? And no one has a perfect day every day. In fact, I can count the number of perfect days I've had on one hand. I guess I'd encourage you not to be bummed by being "bad". It's like I tell people in Diabetes Education class: There are no evil or bad foods. It's everything in moderation. So some days you will be worn out, some days maybe not getting sleep, some days the house is a mess, some days your children come up to you and just hug you for no particular reason, some days your meatloaf turns out sublime.....it's all just life. Don't sweat the small stuff. In the fast scheme of things will you remember this week? I think in the fast scheme of things you'll remember certain trends or periods in your life. I wish I could somehow communicate to you (see I'm not sucha good writer) that just write. It's not going to be published by Random House, (although perhaps by blurb.com) and what matters is that we just hear how you're doin'. Don't apologize to us. We just want to hear how you're moving thru life and we don't have a red pencil correcting your compositional style. Hang in there....Love the photos (banner is great)and looking forward to hearing about Africa when you get back.

Missoula Children's Theater

Last week Savannah and Ethan were both cast in their school's Missoula Children's Theater production of Red Riding Hood. Savannah was cast as Mother Hood and the Grandmother, and Ethan was Robin Hood - the Hood family's cousin from England. After five days of intense rehearsing, (four and a half hours every day after school) they were ready for two shows on Saturday afternoon. It was so fun for them. And fun for me, as I was one of two parent volunteers with the privilege of being at every rehearsal. I come from my own childhood experience of many opportunities with theater and musicals, so watching them experience the thrill of performing was awesome. It was an amazing week. I'm so glad they had the chance to do it. I loved that instead of having to commit to weeks and weeks of rehearsals, they just had to do this one really intense week. A full scale musical production without a month of rehearsing and I didn't have to sew any costumes! That's my kind of pla...

Phlumpyschlumpy.

Good morning, peeps. It's Friday. There's frost outside this morning. *FROST!* This week has been ridiculously chilly. I'm having mixed feelings about blogging lately. Mostly because I feel like all I've been doing is whine about being tired. Or overwhelmed. And because comments are lacking. And because I can't seem to think about anything to write about except Tejan. And because some of the thoughts I'm having are too private for the blog - or too repetitive. Or too unformed to turn into actual words you all could understand. So I'm struggling a bit. And yet, I'm committed to documenting the process I'm in. So I'll keep writing when the words come. And when they don't, like this morning, when I looked at that intimidating blinking cursor and my mind went blank and I started to break out in a cold sweat and began by talking about the weather... well, then, I'll just gracefully (or not so gracefully) back out of the room... tail between m...
